Five people killed on the N4 near Ngodwana and Sudwala this week

The three deceased were women who had been back seat passengers. They were estimated to be in their late 40s and early 50s.

A collision between a truck and a sedan killed three people on the N4 near Ngodwana yesterday. The accident happened around 14:30 at the Kaapsehoop turn-off.

It is alleged that the truck, which was transporting potatoes, was travelling in Waterval Boven’s direction from Mbombela when it collided with the sedan as it entered the road after exiting a nearby shopping centre.

“One of the victims had been flung out of the vehicle and landed on the road,” explained Moeti Mmusi, the spokesperson for community safety, security and liaison.

The driver and the front seat passenger of the sedan sustained serious injuries. They were rushed to Rob Ferreira Hospital.

No one in the truck sustained injuries.

This accident happened only two days after another accident, between a truck and a minibus, claimed two lives on the same road near the Sudwala turn-off.

One victim died on the scene and the other one passed away in hospital. Thirteen other people were seriously injured.

“This is really a concern. We urge motorists to be extra cautious on the road and to adhere to all regulations. The investigation into both crashes is already under way,” concluded Mmusi.
