Public Works former MEC is no more

She was currently serving as the member of the mayoral committee leading the infrastructure and technical services portfolio in the Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM).

The former MEC for the Department Public Works Roads and Transport, Dumisile Nhlengethwa, is no more.
She passed away on May 24 at the age 51.


Nhlengethwa was deployed as the Speaker of Msukaligwa Local Municipality in August 2016 during Premier David Mabuza’s cabinet reshuffle.

She was currently serving as the member of the mayoral committee leading the infrastructure and technical services portfolio in the Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM).
She had held a number of prominent positions both in the local and national government.

These included being the chairperson of the portfolio committee on cooperative governance and traditional affairs in the National Assembly, and member elect at Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature.
News of her passing was announced during a special meeting today at GSDM.
Council members from various political parties had expressed their shock and condolences to the Nhlengethwa family, the political party she served and the GSDM family.
