Deceased daughter’s family suspects foul play

The suspect who hit her is available and had given his statement to the police for investigation purposes.

The bereaved family of a 37-year-old woman who was found dead on the N4 a few kilometres from the Middelburg Toll Plaza, suspects foul play.

Bongekile Faith Khoza’s death certificate indicated that she had died of unnatural causes on March 20. Her lifeless body was found on one side of the road, beside the yellow line, while her car was found on the opposite side. Daniel Khoza, the victim’s father, told Mpumalanga News that he was not convinced by the circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death.

Khoza said there were no bloodstains at the scene of the said “accident”. He also raised questions about how the police had left the victim’s car at the scene for the whole day, unattended. Khoza wanted the investigating officer of the case to check the video footage at the tollgate to verify if his daughter’s car went through the tollgate that day and who was driving it.

Brig Leonard Hlathi, the spokesperson for the provincial police, said the information provided by Khoza was new to the police. He said the vehicle of the victim, a worker at the Columbus Mine in Middelburg, was apparently brought to a halt by spikes on the N4, after which she tried to run away.

Hlathi said she was hit by another vehicle from the mine. The suspect of this vehicle, however, voluntarily gave statements to the police.

“The information provided is totally new to us. The suspect who hit her is available and had given his statement to the police for investigation purposes. If the family has any concerns or issues, they must raised them with the investigating officer as they have his contact details. The police is not aware of any other person who was hit or bumped by a car on that particular day,” he concluded.
