ANC Provincial Conference date set and agenda laid out

Finally, a date for the ANC’s provincial conference has been set. The 13th provincial conference will take place from May 14 to 16 at a venue still to be decided.

According to the party’s top structures, the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC), who met virtually on Monday, took a resolution to urgently resuscitate preparations towards convening this much-awaited provincial conference.

“The meeting also discussed the decision of the National Command Council following their assessment made of infections, to decide to return the country back to alert level 1, open up the economy and allow economic, political and social activities to take place under strict adjusted regulations of 100 people indoors and 250 people outdoors.“

“This decision immediately allows for political gatherings to take place and the PEC resolved to urgently resuscitate preparations towards convening the 13th provincial conference.“

“Timelines to the conference were also revised and adopted by the PEC,” read part of the statement sent shortly after the meeting.“

This elective conference has been postponed many times for a number of reasons, including Covid-19. Positions in the organisations under discussion are those of the chairmanship and the secretariat.

Provincial ANC branches have long started nominating their preferred candidates for the above positions and others. Notably, the PEC reiterated their call to all members and leaders of the ANC to avoid unnecessary mudslinging and attacks on one another, as they prepare for both local government elections and the provincial conference.
