Touch a Million recently launched its Dream Kids after-school chess programme at Emtfonjeni Combined School. Eddie Bhila, the recreational coordinator of Touch a Million, said, “There are 10 schools in the KaBokweni area that benefit from this initiative.

They received equipment that included 10 chess sets (pieces and boards) per school, 10 manuals and one demonstration chessboard with magnetic pieces.”

Mthunzi Primary School, Bongamlambho Primary School, Gutjwa Primary School, Maphakama Primary School, Emtfonjeni Combined School, Sabane Secondary School, Vulindlela Secondary School, Khumbula Secondary School, Sibhulo Secondary School and Zikodze Secondary School are participating in this fun-filled learning initiative.

During the launch school representatives were present for the equipment handover. Bhila said the programme’s aim is to create an environment that is conducive to learning and development within our local schools.

“This is with regard to both personal and academic development. This is why we chose to start by introducing chess clubs as it is one of the few sports known to help improve cognitive development in kids that is necessary for both personal and academic development,” he explained.
