Municipality spends R8m on 14 brand-new vehicles

The City of Mbombela Local Municipality’s (CMLM) service delivery vehicle is quickly gaining some speed to deliver much-needed services to its communities.

This became evident when the City’s executive mayor, Cllr Sibusiso Mathonsi, received 14 brand-new top-of-the-range vehicles aimed at enhancing service delivery within CMLM.

During this symbolic handover at the Mbombela Stadium on Monday, Mathonsi told the media that the City had bought the vehicles mostly for its plumbers to be able to do their work with ease.

“It must be noted that these vehicles were not donated to us, but we bought them because we understood the nature and environment in which our plumbers had to work just to make sure that we deliver quality and clean water to all our people within the municipality.
“Before this, our plumbers found it difficult to travel and move around to certain communities due to a lack of tools, but now they will be able to drive around with ease while bringing services to our people,” said Mathonsi.

The vehicles cost the City about R8 million and will be fitted with tracking devices to ensure they are not abused, but used only for the purpose of servicing CMLM communities.

Mathonsi gave the general managers responsible for this department strict instructions to always look after these vehicles.

“They must be well looked after and they must be used to service our people. It cannot be right that we buy working tools such as these vehicles today and after two years they are broken and look like they were bought 20 years ago. These are tools of trade; they must be well taken care of and we need to stick to the service and maintenance plans,” said Mathonsi.
