Students oriented on university life

Ncongwane urged the prospective students to keep the high school's flag high by setting a good example in their conduct.

History was made at Ngodini High School when the matric class of 2020 achieved a whopping 95 per cent pass rate and the school achieved the top place in the Nsikazi Circuit.

The day saw candidate students oriented on what to expect at university. “Before you even get to university, you must know the difference between a lecturer and lecture. There is no Meneer So and So who apparently robbed you of your marks; there are lecturers at a university. There is also what we call the predicate mark which determines whether you will be admitted to write exams or not. It is important that you work hard and give all your assignments your best in order to be admitted to the exam room,” said Sakhile Ncongwane of Macbeth Attorneys.

She shared with them the basics principles of varsity life and language.

“There are also faculties at the university; you must know which faculty you belong to. Don’t be intimidated by your colleagues coming from private schools and multiracial schools. What is important is not the accent, but the content. If you have content you have everything,” she said.

The top three learners of the school and five teachers whose learners performed best in their subjects were awarded with lucrative prizes courtesy of Macbeth Attorneys.

The learners received laptops, routers, trophies and cash to help them with their registrations and settling in at higher institutions of learning.

The principal, Collins Letsang, said, “We never expected such a great performance, especially because of the Covid-19 pandemic that disturbed the academic year. Through it all we managed to achieve 95 per cent. We had a total of 95 candidates and only five of them failed.

This year we have 118 matric learners; our target is to achieve 100 per cent. This is the beginning of a new chapter for this school.” Macbeth Ncongwane, the founder of Macbeth Attorneys, motivated learners to work hard to their subjects for them to be admitted to universities of their choice.

“To be academically inclined will help you to make rational decisions,” he said. “Concentrate on your books, work hard and be determined to achieve the best. Your background shouldn’t determine your future. Avoid making babies and drinking alcohol; your time will come for that. For now, focus on your education.”

The day was also attended by the Nsikazi Circuit manager, Mandrew Nyambi, members of the school governing body and the Speaker of City of Mbombela Local Municipality, Cllr Sipho Siwela.
