Time’s almost up for siSwati and isiNdebele TV drama auditions

The deadline for submissions of short audition videos for this long-awaited siSwati and isiNdebele TV drama series ends on January 31.

The deadline for submissions of short audition videos for this long-awaited siSwati and isiNdebele TV drama series ends on January 31.

Bukhosi Productions’ series director, Kekeletso Mphuthi, urged aspiring actors and actresses who have not yet submitted their audition videos to make use of this eleventh hour and submit their work.

“This is your last chance to be part of the shining team that will, for the first time, render TV series lovers a fully-fledged siSwati and isiNdebele TV story with a bit of xiTsonga and sePulana added,” Mphuthi announced.

The series seeks the rich talent of siSwati- and isiNdebele-speaking people to fill up the space in these languages on South African TV. Mphuthi said most of the 11 official languages in South Africa are aired on TV, with the exclusion of siSwati and isiNdebele. “You won’t believe that in the event of these languages being featured on TV, the roles are usually minor and the actors are not given an opportunity to grow,” she said.

Bukhosi is an African tale about leadership, culture, love, wealth and power.

“We are looking for passion and talent,” said Delizwe Shabangu, the creator and executive producer of the series. “With Bukhosi, we aim to cultivate new talent and create employment. We aim to showcase tourist attractions in Mpumalanga and make it the place for shooting movies and TV shows, and to support Mpumalanga’s local businesses,” he said.

Shabangu said the response from interested actors and actresses is overwhelming; actually amazing.

“The scenario has dramatically changed into a first come, first served situation, if not that the early bird catches the worm. So, drop your audition video now or live to regret it for the rest of your life,” he cautioned.
