Help them achieve their goal of 100 shoes

The pair started the Mayebuye Servants Organisation last year, and their aim is to collect and distribute shoes to disadvantaged rural schools.

On a quest to make a difference, two grade 12 learners started a school shoes collection initiative. Kagiso Silinda (18) and Tshepo Silaue (18) are learners of Lowveld High School and need the public’s support to collect school shoes.

The pair started the Mayebuye Servants Organisation last year, and their aim is to collect and distribute shoes to disadvantaged rural schools. Kagiso said it had all started with their passion to make a difference.

“Just like how some learners are passionate about sports, acting or singing in the choir, we are passionate about demonstrating solidarity to disadvantaged local schools,” she said.

“The aim is to collect more than 100 shoes. We need school shoes regardless of condition; used, old or new. We would be happy if any local company would partner with us so that we will be able to repair some of the shoes if necessary.

“We believe this campaign will help keep the learners in school and encourage them to not miss any class. “Some learners are from families that struggle to make ends meet, and some parents lost their jobs due to Covid-19,” she explained.

The organisation has managed to collect 18 new pairs, and so needs another 82 pairs. “The schools that will benefit from this initiative are ZB Kunene High, Central High, Stintile Secondary and Thembeka High.” Tshepo added that he would like to encourage the class of 2020 to donate shoes. “Matrics, let us give back to the less privileged,” he said.
