Ehlanzeni TVET College clamps down on scams

No official is allowed to accept money from anyone at the campus for a placement test or registration.

The Ehlanzeni TVET College has distanced itself from people asking for and taking money from unsuspecting community members in exchange for places at the educational institution.

The college spokesperson, Mxolisi Nzimande, said it has been inundated with calls and reports of people masquerading as Ehlanzeni TVET’s agents asking for money from potential students to be placed in the college for the 2021 academic year.

“It has been noted with concern that some cash collections have been taking place on campuses as a registration fee or a fee to secure space for the academic year by individuals who claim to be college agents. Ehlanzeni TVET would like to inform the public that is has not appointed any agents on its behalf and no cash collections are allowed at any of our campuses,” said Nzimande. He said they view these reports and allegations as nothing but a criminal act.

“Ehlanzeni TVET College takes these allegations of criminal conduct very seriously. Besides, the college is looking into the matter internally and will also approach the police to investigate the claims so that all those who are associated with the alleged scam, whether inside or outside the institution, can be brought to book,” he said.

Nzimande urged members of the public to note that the college will only be attending to those who have applied during the application period and were successful.

“There will be no walk-in registrations taking place during registration week, except for Mapulaneng Campus for engineering studies. Those who did not apply in 2020 for 2021 should not fall for scams that make promises and give false hope.

“No official is allowed to accept money from anyone at the campus for a placement test or registration. We urge anyone who may fall victim to such activities to not hesitate to report the matter to the campus manager of that particular campus, or college management immediately,” advised Nzimande.
