Azapo sounds warning over Covid-19

The Azanian People's Organisation voiced its concerns over the ever-increasing Covid-19 infections in the province.

The organisation’s interim chairperson, Tshepo Morufane, said they are deeply worried about the rising numbers of infections and related fatalities. “According to statistics by the provincial Department of Health, to date, the province has over 45 728 cases, 7 651 of which are active, and over 707 fatalities, with the City of Mbombela, eMalahleni, Steve Tshwete, and Nkomazi the major hotspots in the province.

“The total number of health workers exposed to Covid-19 from both public and private sectors is 1 906, with 1 677 recoveries and 213 active cases.

“With these stats, we would like to appeal to every citizen in Mpumalanga not to be complacent in their fight against Covid-19 and its new variant. Right now, our health and safety depends on everyone adhering to the World Health Organisation’s protocols of sanitising hands regularly, wearing face masks covering nose and mouth, and keeping a social distancing. We further appeal to you to always comply with Covid-19 regulations as proclaimed by government,” appealed Morufane.

On behalf of the organisation, Morufane sent their condolences to all those who have lost their loved ones to Covid-19. “We wish them strength and courage as they begin a new life without their departed family members. We would also like to extend our gratitude to all frontline workers for their selfless dedication to serve the people of our province during such hard times.

“Coronavirus is real and it kills. Let us do all we can to protect ourselves and our loved ones. Please, avoid crowds, stay at home, go out only when necessary, don’t visit people, and don’t attend funerals unless you are among the 50 mourners who must attend,” he concluded.
