How to cope with your first Christmas after losing a loved one to death

This year a lot of people lost their loved ones due to Covid-19. The first Christmas without a family member, partner and friends can be difficult and filled with unbearable memories.

Here are some things to consider through this challenging time:

1. Do things differently this year
– If the idea of doing what you always did is too painful try something new

2. Allow yourself to grieve

3. Be kind to yourself

4. Give to charity
– Choose a charity to give a gift to in your loved one’s name.

5. Tell stories
– Talk about the memorable moments. It is fine to talk about them.

6. Put regrets to the fire
– You do not have hold on to regret, guilt and the feeling of resentment.

7. Do not feel guilty if you have moments of enjoyment

– Allow yourself to enjoy without feeling guilty.
