ANC mourns the death of Cde Refiloe

Her wealth of experience as a legislator both at a local and provincial level, and her experience as an activist and leader of our movement makes our loss even more profound.

The ANC in Mpumalanga is mourning the death of ANC provincial executive committee (PEC) member, Refiloe Mahlobogoane.

“The passing of Cde Refiloe leaves the ANC, and the people of Mpumalanga she diligently served poorer, but we are comforted by her immeasurable contribution in the struggle to build a better life for all.

“We have no doubt that she is among the men and women, Cde Yusuf Dadoo spoke of when he said: ‘In the life of every nation, there arise men who leave an indelible and eternal stamp on the history of their peoples; men who are both products and makers of history. And when they pass they leave a vision of a new and better life and the tools with which to win and build it’,” said Sasekani Manzini, provincial spokesperson for the ANC.

Mahlobogoane was an activist whose roots can be traced from the Moutse Civic Association, the ANC and ANCWL in the then Western Region. She was part of the first local councillors in a democratic South Africa in the Mdutjane Transitional Local Council. She also served as a member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature for 15 years. Mahlobogoane had chaired different portfolio committees and was at some point deployed as the deputy chief whip of the ANC. A At the time of her death she was serving as a member of the mayoral committee in the Nkangala District Municipality. “She was not only an experienced legislator, but also a seasoned activist who served in different political structures which include the ANCWL PEC, the ANC PEC and the national executive committee of Sanco.

 

 “We extend our sincere condolences to her family and friends, and trust that they will find comfort in knowing that Refiloe was a distinguished leader of our people who fits into the category of leaders who left us a vision for a better life for all, and the tools required to achieve this vision. May her humble soul rest in peace,” concluded Manzini.
