Support is the cornerstone of child Welfare

The meeting's aim was to provide feedback and to keep the community and businesses that support the organisation updated.

Child Welfare SA Nelspruit looked back on its 2020 achievements, challenges and future plans during its AGM. It was recently held at Communio Church. The meeting’s aim was to provide feedback and to keep the community and businesses that support the organisation updated.

Jacqui Burns, committee chairperson, said this year has seen an alarming increase in sexual abuse, rape of children, abandonment and neglect. “Despite all of this, the incredible team at Child Welfare SA Nelspruit has stayed committed. I often find it difficult to articulate my admiration for Nomfundo Myeza and her team. They have a huge task of servicing the area with child-protection services that, understandably, can be incredibly emotionally and mentally challenging at times.

As with many NPOs in SA, the battle for survival has not exempted Child Welfare SA Nelspruit. Although we have been incredibly blessed again with the support of the National Lotteries Commission and our community, it is an ongoing challenge in the current financial climate,” Burns said.

Myeza, the manager of the organisation, said the well-being of children depends on the ability of families to function effectively. “Kids need to grow up in nurturing families that can ensure their development and protection. Our focus is to preserve and strengthen them so they can provide a suitable environment for the physical, emotional and developmental well-being of children. We hope that through the support of all our stakeholders our mission will be seen, felt and will continue to be realised.”

According to Myeza, their plans would not have been possible without the constant support from the community, donors, local businesses and volunteers.

“I would also like to thank all the helping hands that assist us. I wanted to give special acknowledgement to the dedication of the committee members,” she added.
