Road accident claims three lives on the R23 road

Jaws of Life had to be used to remove the bodies of the deceased from wreckage

Yesterday, three people were killed when a sedan and an articulated truck crashed on the R23 road between Balfour and Greylingstad, near Sprucewell Crossings. The accident happened at around 15:00.

“The three people died on the scene, including the driver of the sedan and two passengers. The truck driver was unharmed,” said Moeti Mmusi, spokesperson for community safety, security and liaison.

It is alleged that the sedan crashed on the back of the truck and truck overturned and rolled over the sedan.

“The Jaws of Life had to be used to remove the bodies of the deceased from wreckage,” he added.

The road was closed for several hours as emergency personnel cleared the scene.

An investigation into the crash is underway. MEC Gabisile Shabalala yet again reminded motorists to use the road with great caution so that tragedies such as this one could be avoided. Shabalala believed that with increased cautious use of the road and obeying of rules, road crashes will not happen.
