KaNyamazane resident dies outside police station

The man apparently fell when he tried to alight from a bakkie which came to the station with a number of other residents.

A 32-year-old man recently died in front of KaNyamazane Police Station. The incident occurred last week Tuesday afternoon.

Members of the community have since taken to social media, accusing the police of his death. Tekza Mnisi, a resident, alleged that the man had died in the arms of the SAPS at the station. Col RM Mogane, the station’s commander, denied the allegations, stating they are untrue and misleading. “The death of that person was not a result of police negligence,” he said on Thursday.

According to Mogane, the man apparently fell when he tried to alight from a bakkie which came to the station with a number of other residents.

“He was among a group of people which came to the police station looking for another group which had arrived earlier with an injured man who was accused of housebreaking.

That man had been taken to the local clinic to treat his injuries,” he said.

Mogane added that while the police were busy helping the members of the community inside the station, a woman came in to say the deceased had fallen and was unconscious. Police went outside and found him lying on the pavement behind the bakkie. He was declared dead on the scene by paramedics. The police have opened a case of murder.
