Two suspects to appear in Sabie court following shoot-out with SAPS

Two suspects are due to appear in the Sabie Magistrate's Court after their arrest following a business burglary which resulted in a shoot-out with police on Saturday. 

MBOMBELA – According to Col Donald Mdhluli, the SAPS were notified about a burglary in which approximately six suspects allegedly broke into a cell phone shop and helped themselves to valuable items.

The police responded to the complaint and upon their arrival at the scene, the suspects began firing shots at them.

“The police defended themselves and injured two of the suspects. They were arrested, but the other four got away. The arrested suspects were found in possession of two firearms and ammunition as well as cell phones which are believed to have been stolen during the burglary. The SAPS were not harmed during the shoot-out. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate was also notified of the incident,” said Mdhluli.

Two counts of attempted murder are being investigated with additional charges which include business burglary, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as possession of the suspected stolen property.

The police have since launched a manhunt for the other suspects.
