Mpumalanga Yami a welcome boost

The revival of domestic tourism post-lockdown has received yet another helping hand with the recent launch of the travel and lifestyle movement, Mpumalanga Yami.

The movement is the brainchild of Mpumalanga-born blogger and public relations specialist, Dumisile Masuku. She started it as a way to not only pay homage to this province, but also to assist in reviving its tourism sector.

“With so many jobs lost during lockdown in this sector, one of the region’s largest employers, nearly coming to a standstill, it has become even more important for us to invest in ourselves and uplift Mpumalanga in order to attract investment,” she said.

“Throughout the province, you will find that tourist hotspots are intertwined with small and predominantly rural communities; these are often left to bear the brunt of a struggling economy.

“It is therefore vital that we empower these communities through boosting domestic tourism so that they too have an appreciation of what Mpumalanga has to offer.

“It is easily the most beautiful and unspoiled province in South Africa and for us to claim our position as the tourism capital, we need to see ourselves as among the best the country has to offer.”

According to Masuku, anyone, particularly locals, touring this province should simply forget everything they think they know about the area and simply get lost in the unique destinations and cultural offerings.

She is on a mission to tour the whole province and share her experiences on the Mpumalanga Yami blog and various other social media platforms.
