Duo gives matric learners in KaNyamazane a helping hand

The duo has called on learners who are interested in attending the lessons this weekend to make prior arrangements with them.

Two friends are on a mission to help educate the nation by helping matric learners prepare for their final examinations. Floyd Shabangu and Troy Silubane of Get Smart with Floyd are giving free revision lessons to matrics from this township. The initiative started this past weekend at Thembeka High School.

The two local heroes also provided the learners with light lunch from their own business, the Neighbours’ Kitchen. “More than 40 pupils from various schools attended the lessons on Saturday and Sunday. Our aim is to help as many as we can by getting them ready for their final exams. We have seen how the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown have negatively affected the learners. “For example, the matrics have been home for more than 45 days due to the pandemic and they are now under pressure with the exams approaching in a few weeks,” said Shabangu. He said without all the proper guidance from teachers, necessary attention and time, the learners face a mammoth task.

“We came up with a solution that we believe will have a positive impact on them. We are going to offer free tutorial sessions in mathematics and physical sciences until the final exams. “We also have another friend coming aboard to help them with business economics and mathematics literacy from this coming weekend,” added Silubane. They have also extended their invite to local business people and interested individuals to sponsor the learners with lunch in-between their sessions and to donate stationery.
