Thandeka Mdeliswa shot dead

When Mdeliswa went to address the two men, the argument became violent and one of them grabbed his friend's firearm and allegedly shot Mdeliswa.

One of country’s talented actress from Mpumalanga, Thandeka Mdeliswa, has passed away. She was shot at Evander, Mpumalanga on September 3.

According to a statement from the Mdeliswa family,  she was rushed to Evander Hospital immediately after the shooting where she was stabilised and airlifted to Witbank after  which she was transferred to Steve Biko Academic Hospital. She died on Saturday morning.

According to police spokesperson Brig Leonard Hlathi, two men came to the home on Thursday and had an argument with Mdeliswa’s brother.

Hlathi said when Mdeliswa went to address the two men, the argument became violent and one of them grabbed his friend’s firearm and allegedly shot Mdeliswa.

The two men fled the scene. According to Hlathi the police have since identified the owner of the gun, but are still in pursuit of the shooter.

“This is another incident of violence against women (gender-based violence) which our country has to fight against. We believe that justice will be served,” read the family statement.  

Mdeliswa was famously known for her role of Khanya in SABC1’s Isindebele drama, Ikani.
