A Sibusisiwe Secondary School grade 11 learner, Matlali Mabuza (17), is hopeful that she will do great in the “Play Your Part” competition.

Mabuza recently represented the Lowveld and Mbombela in this competition initiated by Brand South Africa. She joined other learners from Izimbali Boarding School, Witbank High School and DM Motsoaseli High School.

Winners will be awarded with prizes to the value of R50 000 for their schools. “The competition was very tough, but eye-opening as well. I am satisfied with my presentation and I look forward to receiving the judges’ decision,” she said. “There are still many young people who think local brands are of cheap quality. I have realised that by convincing them to support local brands, there will be an increase in job opportunities and eventually our economy will also grow,” continued Mabuza.

“The ‘Play Your Part’ initiative is aimed at lifting the spirit of our nation by inspiring South Africans to adopt a positive attitude, be actively involved and committed towards shaping the country for the better, for all citizens. The campaign is also aimed to rewarding those who are acting as role models for the rest of the province and country,” explained Sithembile Ntombela, Brand South Africa’s general manager for marketing. Ntombela said judges faced the difficult decision of having to select the winner after a tough competition among the learners.
