Virtual Public hearing on customary initiation bill and local government: municipal structure amendment bill

The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements; Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Ms Makhosazane Masilela, invites members of the public and any affected or interested stakeholders to a Virtual Public Hearing aimed at soliciting public views and comments on the Bills.

The Customary Initiation Bill [B7B-2018] seeks to provide for the effective regulation of customary initiation practices; to provide for the establishment of a National Initiation Oversight Committee and Provincial Initiation Coordinating Committees and their functions; to provide for the responsibilities, roles and functions of the various role-players involved in initiation practices as such or in the governance aspects thereof; to provide for the effective regulation of initiation schools; to provide for regulatory powers of the Minister and Premiers; to provide for the monitoring of the implementation of this Act; to provide for provincial peculiarities; and to provide for matters connected therewith.

The Local Government: Municipal Structures Amendment Bill [B19B-2018] seeks to amend the Local Government: Municipal Structures Act, 1998, so as to insert, delete and amend certain definitions and other important issues related to Local Government.
