Rise and shine with Breakfast Show hosts

What makes a perfect breakfast combo?

MBOMBELA –  Just take a daily dose of three full hours of Rise FM’s Breakfast Show, put a dash of Mpumi Mbethe behind the mic, and for flavour add a cupful of Cheese and enjoy.

With such combination, it’s no wonder Rise FM breakfast show is still one of the mouthwatering shows in the province.

Presented by radio dynamites, Mpumi Mbethe and Cheese, this show has cemented its place in the hearts of many
Mpumalanga residents, who are always kept entertained and informed at the same time.

“Working together has really been fun, different and hassle free. We have different views, but we respect each other.
We generally have fun with the topics and engaging with the listeners of the show. Each day is different, we bring
in experts when we have questions. We have robust debates on air and sometimes we push the envelope a bit. Our
team is made up of people from different parts of the province, so when we speak our listeners are able to relate,” said Mbethe.

“The fact that we have contrasting personalities makes our show very interesting, in a sense that we will have opposing views almost 80 per cent of the time.

“But we are mature enough to understand that just because we have different views to each other and we express
them strongly on air, doesn’t mean we are attacking each other personally, but simply representing the views of our
listeners.

“We also do coaching with our programme manager every day and we all contribute to the prep of what gets delivered on air. We research and read a lot,” jumped in Cheese.

Born Nompumelelo Princess Mbethe and Xolani Sibonelo Masango, these two welltravelled radio personalities
took over reigns as co-hosts of the breakfast show after DJ Sbu’s contract ended in 2016.

Together, they have been creating magic behind the mic and are both not shy to speak their minds.
This station has seen tremendous growth over the years and it continues to reach new frontiers and attracts a
broad listenership across colour and gender.

“It would be great to see the show and the station grow to greater heights. The Covid-19 pandemic has forced us all to
be innovative. This presents opportunities to explore interactive multimedia with other complementary platforms
incorporating online media,” said Mbethe.

Behind the glitz and glam of radio life, Mbethe leads a private and quiet life. She doubles up as a great MC and
runs her own company. She also runs her own social media page, called Mommy Diary.

“Working with Mpumi has really been an amazing experience. I can proudly say that I have learnt a lot from her in the past three years we have worked together. She has a very strong personality which makes it better because
there’s never a dull moment, even though we have our moments on some days.

I would love for us to continue to grow our listenership numbers and excel even more as a station. It would
be a bonus if we could bag a national award for our show,” said Cheese.

Cheese is also a voice artist, club DJ, MC and runs his own businesses, including a travel and tour company. Catch them live daily on Rise FM from 06:00 to 09:00.
