Sasol donates 12000 litres of hand sanitiser

Moments before President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that all public schools would temporarily close, the MEC for education in the province, Bonakele Majuba, received 12 000 litres of hand sanitiser courtesy of Sasol.

MBOMBELA – The sanitiser, which will be distributed to 93 schools within the Ehlanzeni and Nkangala districts, was officially handed over to the department last Thursday.

This was done by Sasol’s senior manager of corporate affairs, Zwelakhe Mkhasibe, at its satellite offices at Riverside Park.

“We are grateful for what Sasol has done for us, augmenting what we have already sent to different schools in terms of sanitisers and all the hygienic packs which are necessary to ensure that our learners and teachers are well protected,” said Majuba.

He assured parents and learners that the department has enough sanitisers for all the schools in the province.
“I can confirm that we have enough of these resources and with the help of Sasol, we will be able to cover all of our schools. It is not the first time the company has assisted us in this manner. It has proven to be a worthy partner and has been assisting us in ensuring that we improve the livelihood of all those in our institutions. Parents can rest assured that we are well equipped and their children will be safe at our schools.”

This donation by Sasol was an addition to an earlier contribution it had made to schools within the Gert Sibande District where the company’s operations are based.

“We are always willing to help our schools and communities where we can, especially during these trying times.
“We hope these sanitisers will help with the safety of our children when they are at school,” commented Mkhasibe.
He said there are a number of programmes they are involved in within the educational sector.

“There are several initiatives we have launched as a company, such as early childhood education, where we offer support with nutrition and infrastructure. There are currently more than 50 early childhood centres that we support.

“During lockdown, we introduced the e-learning platform that was subscribed to by more than 75 000 learners. This was done to ensure that they were able to continue with their studies,” he pointed out.
