Former Ligwalagwala FM presenter starts a new adventure

Mathabela has been appointed programme manager and believes her experience will come in handy in the quest to take the station to greater heights.

After 18 years of working for the national broadcaster, Tracy Mathabela has found a new home at eKasi FM.

Even though she has vast radio experience, this charming stalwart does not let this go to her head.

“I am not here to dictate matters and pretend as if I know it all. I am just a part of one, big, happy family with one common objective, to turn this radio station into a powerhouse,” she opened up.

“With the experience that I have, I believe it is time for me to plough back what I have accumulated over the years.
I know many people are shocked when they see me here since they know me from the big radio station, but it simple really. When you love something, it doesn’t really matter at what level you operate from, because what matters is the love and passion, which is what I am bringing in here,” she went on.

Mathabela, like all the other employees of this radio station, does not get paid.
“Yes, it is on another level, as the programme manager, but my intention with the station is to help uplift new and hidden talent. My wish is to see young people who will take the baton and follow in our footsteps.

“My understanding is that this platform should be used as a feeder to bigger stations. So with the experience that I am bringing here I am going to assist a lot in making sure we get the new talent ready and prepared when the time comes for them to join bigger stations,” continued Mathabela.

She said she would love to see many female presenters coming out and hogging the spotlight.

“When I joined, I realised that there were already more female workers, which made me happy. I was happy to find more willing and keen females aboard.

“And I think being a female who has already been there will help them see and realise the potential and capabilities in themselves,” she pointed out.

She concluded by asking for patience and support from listeners, businesses and the general public.

The station broadcasts 24 hours a day to comply with license regulations.

It went on air on May 11.
