MEC Sasekani Manzini monitors compliance with level 3 regulations

The Department of Health's MEC, Sasekani Manzini, has made tremendous inroads during the past few days in ensuring that different industries within Mpumalanga are in compliance with the Covid-19 Disaster Management Act to curb the Covid-19 coronavirus.

Under the theme, Covid-19 Update #FlattenTheCurve, last Thursday May 28, Manzini was live on Emalahleni FM, Ligwalagwala FM and Ikwekwezi FM to give an update on the pandemic after her visit to Palesa Mine in KwaMhlanga to check on compliance with strict health and safety regulations implemented to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

She said, in part, “We will continue to ensure compliance with health and preventative measures against the virus. The lives of our people come first, hence we will not rest until we flatten the curve and end the spread.”

On the same day she visited Middelburg Hospital, accompanied by Steve Tshwete Local Municipality’s executive mayor, Cllr Bagudi Tolo, who received a donation of personal protective equipment (PPE) from ARNOTOPOC Mine, formerly known as Exxaro.

The PPE will be utilised by healthcare workers to assist in preventing the spread of Covid-19 and other communicable diseases.

Last Friday May 29, Manzini was joined by the deputy minister for planning, monitoring and evaluation, Thembi Siweya, at the Evander Hospital to monitor the provision of healthcare services during the pandemic.

Siweya visited the hospital to specifically monitor the state of readiness to deal with Covid-19 and also to assess the extent of programmes to increase screening and testing within communities in the province. She enquired about the hospital’s plan to continue to serve those affected by other diseases. #StayHome #FlattenTheCurve.

On Monday June 1, the official day when the country entered level 3, she was at i’langa Mall to monitor and check on the compliance of Covid-19 regulations. It was also to ensure that the necessary precautionary measures were applicable to clamp down on the spread of the coronavirus and to ensure the protection of both workers and shoppers from getting infected.

On Tuesday June 2, Manzini visited two mines at Emalahleni in the Nkangala District Muncipality. She visited Glencore Impunzi Mine. Her next stop was South 32 Klipspruit Mine to ensure compliance with health and safety measures. The work of the MEC is a positive sign of the commitment by government towards the fight again Covid-19.
