KANYAMAZANE – A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped last week while visiting a friend.
The suspect (24), appeared in the Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday after he was arrested on April 6, 2020.
According to the victim’s mother, she did not return home on the day and searched for her around their neighborhood.
“When I got back from work, she was not home. We went asking around if anyone had seen her. In the morning around 05.00, I spotted her up the road and quickly went to find out where she had been before I called her father.”

The girl later told her parents about the incident and related what had happened. They opened a case and took her to hospital for tests to be run.
“I can tell she’s not fine, but hopefully she will open up once she gets counseling. All I want is justice, nothing else because she is still too young to be going through this,” said the mother.
Provincial spokesperson, Brigadier Leonard Hlathi, confirmed that a rape case was opened and that the suspect will appear in court next Friday.
