Local lad to benefit from Mandela Washington Fellowship

The founder of Kayise IT, a tech company that specializes in web and software development and deputy president of the Nelspruit Child Welfare, is passionate about transforming people’s lives through technology.

MBOMBELA- Social Information Technology entrepreneur, Thando Hlophe, has been selected to take part in the Mandela Washington Fellowship in June next year.

The Mandela Washington Fellowship is a flagship programme that empowers young people through academic coursework, leadership training and networking.

Every year, the Fellowship provides up to 700 outstanding young leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa with the opportunity to hone their skills at a higher education institution in the United States with support for professional development after they return home.

Institutions focus on leadership and skills development in Business, Civic Engagement or Public Management.

The founder of Kayise IT, a tech company that specializes in web and software development and deputy president of the Nelspruit Child Welfare, is passionate about transforming people’s lives through technology.

He said his aim as a young African leader, is working towards transforming Information and Communications Technology in and around Mpumalanga.

He considers being selected, a blessing as this will give him an opportunity to grow his network and collaborate with other young leaders.

“I am a social entrepreneur, lover of information and technology, it led me into the IT industry. I’m all about about upskilling people and helping companies utilise technology to improve their skills and competencies.”

As an Alumni at E3 Youth Development Hub, he applied online and underwent an interview with the U.S embassy after meeting the criteria.

The six week-long programme will entail a summit in Washington DC with other young leaders from various sectors setting the stage for long-term engagement between the U.S and Africa.
