Students affected by the lockdown

Students expressed the opinions on how the lockdown has affected their studies.

With the country under lockdown a lot of things and activities have been put on hold to help minimize the spread of the Covid-19. Amongst the citizens required to stay at home are students.

Mpumalanga News spoke to a couple of students to hear how this lockdown/pandemic has affected their lives and academics.

 

Mandlenkosi Mthethwa

Mandlenkosi Mthethwa (24), a Tourism Management student says this pandemic is causing huge delay in his career.

“I was supposed to graduate in the next two months and get my qualification to explore and broaden the horizons through a hospitality program I applied for in UAE now everything is being delayed greatly,” said Mthethwa.

Tracy Sambo

Tracy Sambo (20) a second year Public Management student, says they are behind on their studies and they do not know when will this pandemic pass as it is affecting them tremendously.

“The semester is almost over and we have not covered the whole syllabus as we are not having any form of lectures during this period and when we reopen we will be expected to write tests and exams while studying for the next semester this is putting a strain on our academics. Even if you wanted to study on your own, you would not know where to start, you might even end up studying the wrong topics ,” said Sambo.

Freddy Mokoena

Freddy Mokoena a final year Environmental Health student says he is afraid that this pandemic might lead academics to being suspended until next year.

“I find it very unfortunate that we are all affected by the lockdown, the global issue we are facing has gotten everyone standing on their toes, we do not know what to expect as this disease is actually increasing day by day,” he concluded.
