No initiation school gatherings until further notice

Initiation schools have been suspended until further notice in the province.

The MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Mandla Msibi said this is in line with the President’s directive that prohibits gatherings as one of the measures to mitigate coronavirus infections in the country.

He has urged the traditional leadership to ensure that no initiation school takes place in their area of jurisdiction. He said the initiation schools have a potential to spread the virus especially among young initiates, therefore, the decision to suspend them will contribute significantly towards the prevention of more infections in the province.
