MBOMBELA – Street culture is more than just fashion. It is a social movement that Ndumiso Masilela has found himself in.

Born and bred in Mbombela, the student at the University of Cape Town is making waves with his Fear of Being Innocent brand and his
business partner, Tshepo Phala from Westrand in Gauteng.

“Tshepo and I were just brainstorming and came up with an idea of creating a clothing brand. We sat and discussed for almost five hours, coming up with the concept, and decided to call it FBI. The concept is based on our observations of how most of our peers interact, such as doing things to please others even if it is not part of their personal values,” said Masilela.

The environmental and water science student has always loved fashion and to be able to play with materials and various shades to create a product. “My partner is more into the designing and comes up with various designs. We have got tracksuits, T-shirts, trousers, hoodies and jackets for now. We also cater for the ladies with short and long skirts. We have what we call a Fear Not Collection, that includes pants and a top. We deliver orders nationwide,” he added. Their short- and long-term goal is to penetrate the South African hip-hop and textile culture and take their brand to the international market. Orders may be placed online, and their social media handles are FBI_streetwear on Twitter and fearofbeing on Instagram.
