Department of Health dismisses Coronavirus rumours in the province

Fake news have been doing the rounds on social media claiming that there are casualties reported in the province.

Mpumalanga MEC for Health, Sasekani Manzini has dismissed claims of Coronavirus cases in the province.

This is after fake news circulated on social media claiming that there are positive Coronavirus cases reported in the province.

“We would like to assure the public that there are no cases of Coronavirus reported in the province. Whoever is reporting such fake news is misleading the public and creating unnecessary panic and anxiety. We would like to state that the province is on high alert for the virus and if there are any cases that test positive for the COVID-19, we will immediately inform the public,” she said.

Virus symptoms are:

– Fever

– Tiredness

– Dry cough

– Sore throat

– Body pains

– Diarrhea

If you experience these signs and symptoms, please visit your nearest health facility for testing.

Ensure good hygiene by doing the following:

– Cover your mouth and nose with a  bent elbow, tissue or handkerchief when coughing or sneezing.

– Maintain at least 1 metre distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing

– Ensure homes and work places are clean and hygienic.Surfaces must be wiped with disinfectant regularly.

– Regularly clean your hands with an alcohol based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.

The MEC wants to urge the public to utilise the MEC’s hotline number to enquire about any health related issues including this one. The public can call 0800 111 151 during office hours from Monday to Friday between 7:45 am to 16:15pm.
