Load shedding to continue over the weekend

The units that were expected to come back from maintenance were delayed, which led to diesel generators being used overnight.

Stage 2 load shedding will continue until Monday.

Eskom announced that with the power system under stress this morning, diesel generators are being used to meet demand.

“While we have adequate emergency reserves to supplement capacity during the day, we may need to implement load shedding this evening in order to augment diesel and water at our open cycle gas turbines and pumped storage schemes respectively,” reads a statement from Eskom.

Keeping generation units breakages below 9 500 MW is part of a plan to manage the fleet and bring stability back into the power system.

Eskom requested customers to cooperate  by reducing their demand while the power system is being  stabilised.
