MEC Shabalala condemns murder of Secunda family members

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Gabisile Shabalala has condemned the brutal murder of family members whose lifeless bodies were discovered yesterday in Secunda.

The police made a gruesome discovery after they were called to the scene of the horrific incident by the security company that went to the house where the security company found bodies of the four in different rooms of the house.

The security company reportedly went to the house after a school alerted the company that something seemed to be amiss after one of the deceased who was working at the school did not report for work on the day in question.

The woman was also reportedly not answering her phone.

The deceased was subscribed to the same security company that responded to the house to investigate after being alerted by the school.

Upon the gruesome discovery of four dead bodies in the house, the company then informed the police who went to the scene where these cruel deaths were confirmed.

The deceased include a 50-year-old man, his 83-year-old mother, his wife aged 47 years and a 16-year-old male child who was living with a disability.

The police are currently investigating three counts of murder and an inquest has been opened.

Although the police are still investigating, the indication is that one of the deceased, a man, may have shot dead all three family members before turning the gun on himself.

It is in this context that MEC Shabalala is calling on families to seek help when in distress and not wait until matters get out of hand.

“Families should seek help when there are challenges. People should not ignore signs that things are not well in their relationships so that challenges are amicably resolved before things go out hand,” the MEC added.

She further mentioned that the police usually react after the devastation has taken place decrying that such crimes are difficult for police.

She has thus called on the communities to work with the government in order to bring an end to crimes against women and children because the police cannot be in every household.

Shabalala has further called on men not to bottle up issues but to seek help whenever they feel overwhelmed.

The MEC is sending her heartfelt condolences to the families, friends of the deceased, the school where one of the victims was working and the entire community.
