MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Mandla Msibi has raised funds to assist two learners to register at universities.

This gesture comes after the plight of the two learners was reported to him during a visit to two secondary schools at Pienaar. The visit was part of school re-openings. Msibi learned how two learners from Bonginhlanhla and Mayibuye secondary schools struggled to raise registration funds after obtaining distinctions in their matric results.

One of the learners is admitted to pursue a Bachelor of Accounting at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth, and the other will study at the University of Johannesburg.

Msibi urged learners at Bonginhlanhla and Mayibuye secondary schools, to emulate the matriculants.
“We need to produce chartered accountants in this area. If the two learners can pass with distinctions, you can too. I learned that their academic aspirations may be hindered by lack of money for registration. I am saying that they are going to register at their respective universities. We will provide them with the funds to register,” he said to the applause of the learners of both schools.
