Department of education is ready for the re-opening of schools

Schools have already received their post establishment for the 2020 academic year.

The Department of Education has put systems in place to ensure the smooth re-opening of schools for the 2020 school year starting on January 15.

“Stationery was delivered to schools in November and top-up textbooks have been dispatched to schools,” said Jasper Zwane, spokesperson for the department.

He added that schools have already received their post establishment for the 2020 academic year.

Speaking on admission of learners for next year, Zwane said admissions started in May. More than 90 per cent of learners have already been admitted.

“There are only two areas that still have a long list of grade one learners that are yet to be admitted. That is in Mbombela and Emalahleni. The department has established teams to work with principals to ensure that the process of admission and consultation with parents is fast-tracked,” he added.

Zwane that the department had high hopes for this year’s matric results to be announced at the Graceland Casino in Secunda on January 8.

“The department targets an 82 per cent pass rate,” he said.

The department also extended its best wishes to all its stakeholders, teachers, learners, officials and parents a happy and safe festive season.
