Suspect arrested for conspiracy to kill his ex-wife

A 54-year-old suspect was arrested after he allegedly conspired to assassinate his 42-year-old ex-wife in Secunda.

According to Hawks Mpumalanga spokesperson Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi, the arrest followed after allegations that the suspect hired a woman to assist with the planned plot.

“A meeting was held and the suspect told the woman that he will arrange a firearm for her, or she can use the acid which he will organise from the mine where he is working, which she should pour on the face of his ex-wife so that it can damage her skin and the acid will kill her instantly.  The other alternative plan was to give her the spare keys to open the house during the night and inject her with a toxin so that she dies.”

“The lady came back to her senses and located the victim, who is the ex-wife of the suspect, through social media.  The co-conspirator located the victim and arranged a meeting with her at Embalenhle. Upon meeting, the co-conspirator explained the plot to the victim and also shared with her the voice note clips which she recorded during her interaction with the suspect.  The matter was reported to the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation Secunda and the enquiry was registered, ” said Sekgotodi.

Information was passed on to the Hawks` members who arrested the suspect on his way to the victim’s house.  During the arrest, the suspect was in possession of his legal 9mm Norinco firearm and it was seized.
