Taxi passengers survive an accident on the N4

Their injuries varied from mild to serious, some had fractured legs, backs and other injuries.

A taxi carrying passengers from Johannesburg to Malalane was involved in an accident on the N4 Toll Road just after Valencia this afternoon.

Some of the passengers were visiting their relatives around Malalane in the Nkomazi Local Municipality and some heading to the Kingdom of eSwatini.

Paramedics assisted the passengers on the scene. “Their injuries varied from mild to serious, some had fractured legs, backs and other injuries. There were no fatalities recorded on site. The seriously injured passengers were immediately taken to various hospitals,” said the paramedics on the scene. Some were taken Robs Ferreira Hospital and others to Kiaat Private Hospital.

Moeti Mmusi, spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, urged motorist to drive carefully on the wet roads. “All passengers survived the accident with injuries. The road is open and investigations into the cause of the accident is continuing,” he said.
He urged drivers to drive with caution in wet weather conditions. “Due to wet weather, drivers must drive with extra caution, keep the recommended following distance and always obey the rules of the roads.”
