GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

There will be a year-long sustainable prevention and awareness campaign against gender-based violence.

Initiatives shall be developed by the government in order to ensure that holistic support will be given to survivors.

A number of programs focusing on fighting the scourge were approved.

The series of events include a dialogue with women, a gathering with traditional leaders, a session with Amakhosikati, a men’s dialogue as well as interaction with different law experts within the justice system.

These will include educating and empowering survivors as well as cautioning communities about the scourge.

EDUCATION

The department’s moderation and analysis of common assessment results report was noted. Exco is satisfied with the Mathematics strategy which has yielded positive results.

These include schools benefiting from lessons broadcast for mathematics and physical science through the Ligbron Academy project (Maths and Science Academy in eMalahleni). Winter classes have also contributed in this achievement.

Exco emphasised the need to make sure that learners are introduced to subjects like mathematics and physical science while they are still in primary school. Stationary for next year’s academic year has been distributed to schools.

It is imperative to ensure that all schools are ready for teaching and learning on the first day of school.

The Executive Council also congratulated the Department for making sure that for the past 10 years the grade 12 exams have been incident free.
