Police looking for farm attackers

One suspect was allegedly shot by the couple's son and his body was found in a bush near their home.

Police have launched a manhunt for several suspects after an elderly couple was allegedly attacked in a nearby farm outside Mbombela on Sunday morning.

According to police, it is alleged that about four unknown suspects gained entry to the house through a window, while the elderly couple and their son were asleep.

It is reported that once the suspects were inside, they demanded from the victims.

“The suspects allegedly assaulted the couple with sharp objects, believed to be panga’s. It is further reported that during the commotion, the elderly couple’s son, who was reportedly armed, woke up to intervene and shots were fired,” said police spokesperson, Brigadier Leonard Hlathi.

The son sustained injuries to his lower body but managed to shoot one of the suspects whose body was found in a bush near the house.
