Acid mugging victim demands justice

He revealed that he is no longer fit to work and has since left his job at a construction site due to the severe injuries on his body.

MBOMBELA – A victim of an acid mugging incident that took place last year, was shocked to find out his case had been struck off the roll in March despite the investigating officer assuring him he would confirm his court attendance.

Things took a turn for the worst on the evening of September 21, 2018 for Rudolf Nkosi (31) after he was allegedly robbed by six men and sprinkled with acid on his face and body in the CBD before fleeing the scene.

One suspect was arrested in October 2018 after police tracked him down at his hideout around Valencia Park. He appeared in court facing charges of robbery with a weapon other than a firearm and was granted bail. Nkosi expressed disappointment at how the matter has been handled and claimed he has never attended the case.

“A year has passed since the incident and nothing positive has come out of the situation. When enquiring, I was told the case would be moved to the regional court, but a date has not been set. All I want is justice to be served on the people who did this to me,” he cried out.

He further revealed that he is no longer fit to work and has since left his job at a construction site due to the severe injuries on his body.

“It has not been easy for the past year as I have been in and out of hospital for physiotherapy. A lot has changed and now I have to depend on a temporary social grant which frustrates me lot because I was able to provide for myself. “The people who are responsible for my injuries are carrying on with their lives while I live with the fact that I am scarred for life,” he said.

Police spokesperson, Brig Leonard Hlathi confirmed the withdrawal of the case, but stated it was only temporal until Nkosi’s J88 form is included in his docket.

“The complainant received medical attention from two hospitals, Rob Ferreira and another in Gauteng and has two J88 forms and only one form can be used. We are awaiting the diagnosis from the hospital in Gauteng and a decision will be taken thereafter.”
