Heartbreak continues for families of Numbi murder victims

Forensic investigations for the other two victims, Banele Khoza and Lomthantazo Innocentia Mdluli, were completed last week. The two were buried by their families and hundreds of mourners last Sunday.

Two families of the four murder victims whose remains were exhumed from a suspect’s home on July 14, still have no clue when they will receive the remains of their loved ones.

According to Eric Mona, the uncle of Noxolo Mdluli, who is believed to be among the victims, it is unbearable for the victim’s mother. Mona revealed how broken hearted his sister was when she learned that forensic results linking her DNA and the remains of her daughter were still pending further investigation.

“She even ended up in hospital after learning that her daughter’s remains were not returned with the two remains last week. She was only discharged from hospital on Sunday. The situation is not easy for her and the rest of the family. We understand that there is nothing much we can do except to patiently wait. We hope that the investigations will be complete soon, so we can find closure and give my niece a decent funeral,” he said.

Noxolo’s mum has been on leave since the exhumation of the bodies in July.

Banele’s cousin, Phindile Mhlongo, said, “We were hoping that Banele would grow and change the circumstances of her family for the better, as she was a dedicated child who loved her schoolwork. We will miss her,” she said.
