WATCH: Rivals flatten taxi tyres on R40

According to witnesses, two shots were fired in the air.

MBOMBELA- Five minibus taxis had all their tyres deflated by a rival taxi organisation this morning along the R40.

The minibuses belong to the Kabokweni Taxi Association (KTA) who allege that they were attacked by members of the Pienaar Taxi Association in a minibus that came to an abrupt stop next to the five taxis and fired two shots in the air.

One driver said he was from the shop when he heard two gunshots fired in the air. “It was a group of guys in a minibus taxi who parked next to the fleet of taxis who unscrewed valves on the tyres completely deflating them. When  the other drivers heard the shots, they fled the scene leaving their taxis behind.”

One taxi driver returned and started changing his taxi’s tyres, but was visibly terrified. Police spokesperson, Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said he was not aware of the incident. However, he was later alerted about it is waiting for the assessment report from the police.
