Man kills girlfriend and shoots mother-in-law

The deceased was certified dead upon arrival at Barberton Hospital.

Barberton police are looking for a man who killed his girlfriend (22) at Sheba Siding.

The incident happened around 03:00 this morning.

It is alleged the man fired several shots at his girlfriend who was sitting next to her mother (41) in the back seat of the in-laws’ car.

According to Capt Jabu Ndubane, spokesperson of the Pienaar Cluster police, the couple were engaged in a heated argument. The victim’s mother and stepfather were called to the scene to calm the situation. However, things turned ugly while the suspect and victim’s stepfather were outside the car.

“The suspect fired several shots at the back of car before speeding off in the same vehicle which broke down a few metres from the scene. The suspect then fled on foot,” said Ndubane.

The deceased’s stepfather managed to take the two injured persons to Barberton Hospital.

“His step daughter was certified dead upon arrival at the hospital. She had a gun shot wound on the left side of her body. Her mother also had a gunshot wound on the left side of her body. She is in a critical but stable condition,” she added.

The suspect is still at large.
“Police investigations still continue,” she concluded.
