Eight tips to help learners prepare for their exams

It is also vitally important to stay positive during your preparation for exams.

With the beginning of the National Senior Certificate final examinations here are eight ways to help you fully prepare for the exams.

1) Get a timetable – One of the first things to remember before studying is to get a timetable in order to organise your study time and be sure to pay enough attention to all of your subjects.

2) Study location is vital – Choose a spot where you won’t be disturbed while studying, such as your bedroom or the study room. Do not study in front of the television or any other electronic distraction. You can also switch your cellphone off to avoid any WhatsApp messages or social media updates keeping you from your academics.

3) Get a study buddy -This is an important aid for learners, especially if you need motivation to study. Studying in pairs or in larger groups can make revising easier, as your friends might understand a concept that you could be struggling with or vice versa.

4) Use old matric exam papers to your advantage – Old matric exam papers are a great way to give yourself a head start before sitting down and writing your exam.

5) Stay positive – It is also vitally important to stay positive during your preparation for exams. Do not give up when struggling with a maths problem or a concept that you might not understand. Talk to your parents or teachers to assist you if you are under severe stress.

6) Use a study guide and extra materials in newspapers and magazines.

7) Remember to take a break to avoid burnout – A balance between work and play is needed to keep you mentally alert and focused.

8) Eat healthy, get enough vitamins and minerals to sustain your energy and enhance your brain power.
