Police shot rubber bullets to stop taxi violence on the R40

The chairperson of White Hazy Taxi Association, Jeffrey Ngomane, was shot with rubber bullets under his eye while he walking to the police after trying to calm down his members

The taxi squabble over operating routes spilled over to the R40 road between White River and Rocky Drift, resulting in rubber bullets being fired at the warring parties on Tuesday.
It started over who is legally permitted to operate in Msholozi.

This fracas saw members of both KaBokweni Taxi Association (KTA) and White Hazy mount a blockade along the R40 road. Around midday, it is alleged that the associations threw stones at each other, damaging taxis and hurting members in the process.

The chairperson of White Hazy Taxi Association, Jeffrey Ngomane, was shot with rubber bullets under his eye while he walking to the police after trying to calm down his members.

Explaining what happened before his shooting, Ngomane said, “I was informed about the squabble on Tuesday and I attended to the scene as a chairperson. While speaking to the members, the police called for chairpersons and secretaries from both associations and I went to them.”
