Mentally ill patient escapes from Rob Ferreira Hospital
This happened while the MEC of Security Safety and Community Liaison, Gabisile Shabalala was concluding her surprise visit to check on the security measures at the hospital.
A scene was created at Rob Ferreira Hospital when a mentally disturbed man escaped unnoticed from the hospital.
The man, wearing only hospital trousers was seen running across the streets opposite the exit gates.
A witness who saw the man dropping his hospital gown, alleged that the patient jumped over the hospital’s fence.
“He crossed the streets and I called for help, unfortunately he out ran the security guards and everyone into the shrubs,” he said .
This occurred a few minutes after Shabalala had raised her dissatisfaction on the security services provided by Mabotwane Security Company.
Such concerns include the lack of security personnel and lack of firearms.
Shabalala said warning letters must be served to security guards who were not found at their working posts and those found relaxed instead of patrolling the institution to ensure the safety of patients, nurses and doctors.
