Two men aged 18 and 21 died in a house fire at Pine Ridge near eMalahleni yesterday.
According to police, there was a power outage for a short while and when it returned, the pair noticed smoke and fire was coming out of the house and were trapped inside. Several community members rushed to the house in an attempt to extinguish the fire and managed to rescue the mother but the strong blaze, unfortunately, claimed the lives of the two.
The victims were both grade 12 learners at Pine Ridge Combined School. The mother is currently fighting for her life in hospital. “The police, in the meantime, registered an inquest docket. The cause of the fire will be investigated by a team of forensic specialists and await the outcome of the investigation,” said the police in a statement.
