Awards to celebrate Mpumalanga athletes

 It’s all systems go for the Mpumalanga Sports Awards, which will take place on Sunday, July 28 at Emnotweni Arena starting at 18:00.

The Mpumalanga Sports Awards are aimed at honouring and celebrating local athletes who put the province on the sporting map.

The awards has 21 categories with two of them conferred by Culture, Sport and Recreation MEC Lindiwe Ntshalintshali.

The categories are as follows: sport administrator of the year, school team of the year, developing school of the year, newcomer of the year, volunteer of the year, peoples’ choice sport star of the year, indigenous games star of the year, recreation body of the year, team of the year, coach of the year, sport club/federation of the year, sport woman of the year (with disability), sport woman of the year, sport man of the year (with disability), sport man of the year, sport journalist of the year, sport photographer of the year, sport star of the year and sport fan of the year.

The awards that will be conferred by the MEC are lifetime achievement and sport legend. The winners will be announced at a gala event on July 28 at Emntweni Arena, starting at 18:00 and the dress code is formal.

“As a department, we want to use this platform to appreciate Mpumalanga athletes who have flown the provincial flag high,” explains the department’s Sibongile Nkosi.

The nominees were shorlisted by a panel of independent individuals from Mpumalanga sporting federations.
The complete list of nominees that will be voted for by the public are sport star of the year, sport journalist of the year, sport photographer of the year and sport fan of the year.
