The founder and managing director of the company, Zodwa Matsebula, also known as DJ Zoe, with stakeholders of the workshop – the Department of Culture, Sports and Recreation and National Youth Development Agency (Nyda) – will be at Ebukhosini Resort in Mzinti on July 10 from 09:00 to 15:00. They will register, screen and collect demos from artists. Food and drinks will only be sold at the venue.
“We decided to start with these activation programmes following a major outcry from artists coming from far away places who had registration problems. We are now reaching out to them and invite them to come in their numbers,” she said.
On July 18 the programme will be held at KaNyamazane, followed by Hazyview on August 7, then Secunda on August 14 and Witbank the following day.
The artists will then be invited to a workshop in November.
It is aimed at developing, educating and nurturing talented youth in the arts and the creative industry. Artists, DJs, vocalists, choreographers and producers are invited.
“With my 13 years’ experience in the industry, I thought it would be ideal to give back to the community by sharing the knowledge I have acquired and impart my skills to others who want to make it,” she said.
Zoe added that four vocalists, who attended last year’s workshop, are already being mentored by DJ Ganyana, while three others had received grants from Nyda and are already running their own business. Three others obtained bursaries from Damelin and are already studying.
“We are still looking for more sponsors to come on board,” she added.
Sponsors for this initiative include Nyda, Masisebente Youth Development, Links to Brands car dealership, Rise FM, City of Mbombela and Ehlanzeni District.
